Harry Herskowitz
Real Estate
Harry Herskowitz is our senior real estate counsel and head of our real estate department. Mr. Herskowitz is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1979. Mr. Herskowitz's practice is devoted to real estate, mortgage lending and commercial transactions, with particular emphasis on land development and condominium law. Mr. Herskowitz is a former vice-chair of the Real Property Section of the Canadian Bar Association - Ontario. He has been a seminar leader and lecturer of the Real Estate Section of the Bar Admission Course since 1982 and has taught real property law at Osgoode Hall Law School. Mr. Herskowitz is also a contributing author to Carswell's Condominium Law and Administration, 2nd Edition, and was a member of the editorial board of The Condominium Law Letter. Harry Herskowitz has written numerous articles and presented papers on land development issues, mortgage matters, and condominium law, for the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Upper Canada, and Insight Educational Services. Mr. Herskowitz also co-authored a book on the New Condominium Act entitled Condominiums in Ontario: A Practical Analysis of the New Legislation, published jointly by the Law Society of Upper Canada and the Ontario Bar Association. He is currently a member of the ADR Institute of Ontario, and is the vice-chair of Tarion Warranty Corporation (formerly known as the Ontario New Home Warranty Program). Mr. Herskowitz has spoken at numerous conferences on a variety of condominium and real property law issues, and has been listed in the Canadian Legal Directory LEXPERT as a leading practitioner in the area of real estate development and condominium law. He has also been named in The Best Lawyers in Canada 2006 edition, in his practice area. Mr. Herskowitz was the recipient of the Presidential Award of Merit in 2005 from the Greater Toronto Home Builder’s Association, and was recently honoured with the Ontario Bar Association’s Award of Excellence in Real Property Law for 2007. DZ LLP is very honoured and proud of Harry Herskowitz in receiving this prestigious award, and we are delighted to see that his dedication and contributions to the real estate bar have been acknowledged by his peers. Some of the past recipients are Donald Lamont, The Honourable Madam Justice Hilda McKinlay (Ontario Court of Appeal), Sid Troister, Craig Carter and more recently, The Honourable Mr. Justice Paul Perell (Ontario Superior Court of Justice).
